Nice brunch options for a casual vibe. I recommend the burrata and fig toast, the apple salad, and the folded eggs. Server was kind and attentive.
After giving up on our wait for a table at Russ & Daughters Cafe, my husband and I stopped in to Sonnyboy without a reservation and were seated right away at the bar top. The fig & burrata toast was delicious! The fresh thyme and hot honey were the perfect toppings to balance everything together. We also had a side of scrambled eggs and sausage. Would have loved to try a hotcake, but maybe next time!
Decent place! Went for brunch and the food was really good. Drinks are not to expensive, and they have matcha! A little watery but still ok.
The food here was good, and the coffee was great! Lots of outdoor tables and some inside as well. However, I wouldn't call this a must-visit spot. We arrived and were given a wait-time, which was accurate and we got a prompt text when our table was ready. Our staff was knowledgeable and on point with service. Unfortunately we were disappointed to find out that the online menu was not updated- prices did not match and a dish that we had chosen the restaurant for, their shakshuka, is no longer served. There are a couple other Australian brunch spots in the area, and we picked this spot because of items on the menu, that then were not available. However, we did order two iced oat milk lattes, smashed avocado toast with a poached egg, fries, and the ricotta hot cake. Everything was a hit, except the avocado toast was fine but not mind-blowing.
As an Aussie of course I had to go check this place out. But I was sad to find out the original owner had actually sold it to someone who is not Australian. Nevertheless, I was able to try the brunch at this quite small restaurant and it was delicious. There's also still a couple Australian items on the menu which is awesome to see (although there is a mistake printed on it. It's "parma" not "parmy" ) I ordered the harrissa egg fold which was phenomenal (but why does it cost extra to add toast?) and an espresso Martini that was probably the best I've had in NYC although that doesn't say much as I'm not from there and you can only order so many.
I was recently visiting New York and was looking for a brunch spot that would cater to vegans and others and I stumbled upon Sonnybon. The vegan crab cake drew my attention--especially because it is made with lion's mane mushroom. It was DELICIOUS to say the least!! I think this is one of my favorite meals I've ever had. It was so filling but I also never wanted it to end. Each bite was a symphony of savory goodness, with a crispy exterior giving way to a moist and flavorful interior. It came with a side arugula salad which balanced the crab cake and added some freshness to it. I wish I lived in New York just so I can have this meal on repeat.
I love Australian style cafes and Sonnyboy is no exception! It's tinier than expected inside but we didn't necessarily feel crammed or too close to others in the restaurant. We started with the famous burrata fig toast and it was so delicious with the hot honey! For my entree, I got the falafel bowl. It was really good but a little too much olive oil pooled at the bottom. If it weren't for that, it would've been perfect. When ordering, my dad and I ordered the same dish so they only brought out one, thinking we were gonna share but we really each wanted the same dish. They quickly made another and brought it out in ~10 minutes, so no complaints there! I would totally come back here!
This is a small, cozy LES restaurant. I was a few minutes early for my reservation, but they sat me right away. To drink, I had the Poolside cocktail. It was pleasantly spicy with a tropical vibe from the curacao. They have happy hour even on Saturdays and the cocktails were only $12. For my main, I had the kale caesar salad and loved it. I rarely order salads when eating out. However, I wanted something light and was not disappointed. It was quite a large salad with a generous topping of reggiano cheese. The bread crumbs provided deliciously buttery texture and the avocado was an added treat. Every bite was satisfyingly crunchy. My partner got the fried chicken sandwich and enjoyed it, but the accompanying fries were too salty. For dessert, we shared the cheesecake. It was smooth and rich, with a hint of lemon. The back edge of the slice was dry and overbaked, but otherwise, it was a nice end to the meal.
~ Burrata Fig Toast $17 (+ side of bacon $5) ~ [Rating: 4.5/5, 5/5 if include bacon haha] I love this dish!!! The creamy burrata is topped with fresh fig and hot honey, sitting on a perfectly crispy sourdough that doesn't break your teeth with a soft, moist middle. The addition of sea salt and thyme balanced out the flavours really well. Creamy中帶點淡淡奶香的burrata,加上新鮮的無花果,蜜糖,海鹽和百里香,味道有層次,非常清新,不甜又不膩!酸種麵包很好吃,外脆內軟帶點自然的微酸! I add on a side of crispy bacon, because I literally cannot live without meat lmao. They gave you 3 strips, and omg it pairs so nicely with the toast!!!! The savoury and smokiness of the bacon compliments the toast so well, highly recommend you to add bacon!!! (Sorry for the hideous photo, I only took it after I'm nearly done with the first strip and I want to hurry up and get on with eating) 必加培根!!口感大增,鹹鹹甜甜的搭配是我的最愛! ~ Harissa Folded Eggs $16 (+ side of grilled chicken $6) ~ [Rating: 3/5] My friend ordered this, so it's based on her review and my one bite of the folded egg. There are nothing special about this dish, you get what you expect: a nicely presented folded egg, avocados and fresh veges (arugula, fennel, pickled peppers) with vinaigrette sauce. I'm not a big fan of folded eggs, as they usually taste kinda boring, and texture wise they're not smooth/fluffy/creamy (basically it's like eggs I make at home but much prettier lmao). The grilled chicken is quite tender and juicy. I feel like price is a little bit steep for such a basic dish. 沒什麼特別的一道菜,就普通的雞蛋和蔬菜,不難吃但也不能說是很好吃。感覺很健康,減肥的話可以點哈哈,不然我會建議點別的。 Will I be back? Yes I actually really wanted to try the burrata peach toast!!!! It's not available all the time though, I'll try my luck next time! I'd also love to try the shakshuka and ricotta pancake!
